This is a great item to have for your pond or even swimming pool. Although a little slow to pick up large items such as leaves from last fall it works great on cleaning the normal dirt and sludge from the bottom of a fish pond. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get one. The difference in the appearance of my pond is amazing. The cost value was great when compared to local shops in my area.

I bought this for my wood and tile floors. It's perfect. Most of the other vacuums have a rotating brush in the head which only clogs up and causes problems. Currently, there is only one other review on this vac, and it is one star. I'm not quite sure why that is. I think this is a fantastic vacuum cleaner. Our previous vacuum died and we needed it to replace it. This last one was the latest in a procession of vacuums that had died after only a couple of years' use.Apologies to Amazon (from whom I buy nearly everything), but at this price for a vacuum, I wanted local input in a store from an expert. Indeed, the local Miele rep was an expert and put this machine and the favorably reviewed Callisto (?) through their paces for my wife and myself. My wife is only interested in an upright vacuum, although she was tempted by the Callisto. Neither one of us felt like the Tango was particularly heavy, and there is a convenient carrying handle mounted on the machine in a place that makes it particularly easy to carry around. Unlike many vacs, the suction for the floor piece does not go through the hose. When the hose is placed in its home, its suction is turned off and diverted to the floor piece. The machine seems incredibly well made (as it should be for the price). It also articulates where the upright part fits into the floor piece, which allows you to change the angle of the path of the floor sweeper very easily. It picks up all the way out to the edges, and gets under cabinet overhangs quite well. To get under beds, one just wraps the cord around a cord lock under the handle and drops the handle down flat to the floor while holding on to the cord. This allows vacuuming under spaces like beds or tables without bending over.The difference between this model and the Calypso, $200 cheaper is the controls. The rest seems to be the same. Controls on the cheaper model are mechanical while they are touch key electronic on the more expensive one. Also, on the more expensive unit, there is an 'Automatic' setting which is supposed to determine the type of floor (carpet, tile, scatter rug) and adjust the vacuum power automatically.I'll try to post a follow up in a few months...*******************It's now August 2010. Vacuum cleaner is still performing well. Only one issue so far is that the red finish is not terribly durable. Lots of scrapes and scuffs, but I don't keep the unit on display with a stand. It lives in the closet. So, I'm still quite happy with the purchase.********************April, 2012. Vacuum is still going strong. Only issue I have had is that a piece of black plastic fascia has broken off the back of the machine behind the rear wheels. It works fine without it. I believe it was just for looks.

Let me start off by saying that I'm a cleaner. I have two hairy dogs, a four year old and allergies to dust, so I'm constantly cleaning. My Dyson vacuum quite literally stays plugged in all the time. I like a deep down clean. I had seen the Roomba for years and thought it wasn't for me.Well, while researching the Scooba (also a fabulous machine) I decided to go ahead and get a Roomba if only for my kitchen floor. My dogs stay primarily in the kitchen and there's always a ton of hair in there. I have to vacuum every day. I thought I'd just give the Roomba a try. I figured it would clog up with hair in 5 minutes and die, but it didn't. I have a 200 square foot kitchen and the thing cleaned and cleaned until I finally it needed the filter cleaned out (about 45 minutes later) I can't blame it, there was two days worth of dog hair on the floor. If it can handle that, it can handle anything.Next, I set it loose (on the same charge, no less) on the upstairs carpet which is approximately 800 square feet. It cleaned the living room, bathrooms, hall, bedroom and even under the bed! I was quite impressed. It never got stuck. I followed it around to make sure it didn't have any problems and it never did. It went over area rugs, thresholds, & bathmats.I think some people get confused and think that the Roomba is a like a vacuum and then they get disappointed. It's a more of a sweeper. It will get surface dust, hair, crumbs and debris. If you want a deep down vacuum you'll have to pull out your old upright. But if you want a daily sweep up this is the gadget for you.With that being said, I have to give Roomba props for it's level of cleaning. I have 5 year old carpet, it's the low grade stuff the builders install, and Roomba still does a nice job combing the carpet. I can see where Roomba has been because it leaves those nice little brush marks we compulsive cleaners love. Although I'm sure that will vary depending on your carpet.I can't vouch for Roomba's longevity since I've only had it one day. It does seem to move more freely on hard floors than carpet. I don't know if carpeting puts more strain on the motor or not. That could be a factor in longevity. But for now I'd have to say that this little gadget is a time saver and worth 5 stars. It does what it is designed to do and it does it rather well.The only thing I would recommend is that you get the one that returns to the base charger when it's battery is low. That is a nice convenience. That way you'll always have your Roomba ready to use.Definately worth the money. A true time and labor saver. Now, maybe I'll have time to work on my messy garage.Hope this helped you make your decision.

It is not a toy; it does a good job maintaining a floor on a daily basis. I wouldn't expect it to replace my regular vacuum but rather replace daily vacuuming. We use a shop vac once every two weeks for those hard to reach areas that dog fur always seems to find (door pockets, top of dressers, etc), and use Hazel for daily maintenance to keep our travel quarters shedding fur free.Two things you need to be aware of about this device. It doesn't like rugs with tassels, or shoe laces, or anything else a normal vacuum doesn't like. Roomba doesn't always see these things as obstacles. It does a great job of getting un-stuck (it uses what I call the dung beetle approach by rearing up and turning around...fun to watch).You also need to keep it clean. I clean mine every other day. Emptying the bin is one thing, but I use the included cleaning tool to keep the brushes hair free on a regular basis.
